The gathering will take place in Getafe, Madrid, as part of the Mars Challenge International Final — The Grand Jam 2026, turning these days into an exceptional meeting point between the next generation and some of the professionals working on one of the greatest challenges of human exploration:
How to design space systems around the people who will have to live, work and survive inside them.
OSMED is an international organisation dedicated to advancing human space exploration by connecting medicine, engineering, design, research and other disciplines that have traditionally worked apart.
Its principle is fundamental:
Human spaceflight is a human systems challenge.
Going further does not depend only on better vehicles, hardware or software.
It also depends on understanding the human body, health, behaviour, risk, autonomy and the conditions needed to sustain life once Earth is no longer within immediate reach.
Why inside The Grand Jam?
Because while Mars Challenge's young people use Mars as a stress test to design solutions under finite resources and extreme conditions, OSMED works professionally on a complementary question:
What does the human being actually need to operate within those systems?
Two different perspectives converge for a few days in Madrid:
A generation learning to design under limits.
An international community working to make it possible for human beings to live within them.
OSMED's first European meeting will be an independent gathering organised by OSMED itself, integrated as a special side event of The Grand Jam 2026.
A singular moment within the International Final where education, space medicine, engineering, design and human exploration share territory.
